Sorry this blog has been a bit quiet, I've had some technical issues loading photos but hopefully I've sorted that now.
Here are Primary 2 receiving their Read, Write, Count packs. The class have shown lots of enthusiasm and have talked about all the learning they have been doing while out and about.
We have also been reading more during school time. The primary 4's have been doing paired reading with us and giving us tips on how to read tricky words. Both classes have worked fantastically together.
Along with our literacy theme this term we have planned trips to the Stromness Library. We have been introduced to the range of books there and shown how to search for out favourite authors. It was also exciting to see the Minecraft figure from the 3D printer.
On our way back to school we were looking out for proper nouns because we had been learning about this in class. The children spotted lots of proper nouns but here are a few.

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Well done Primary 2! You were fantastic hosts at our Macmillan Coffee Morning. We had lots of help on the day, our kitchen staff helped to set up and clear away as well as allowing us to use the hall for the morning. We had lots of parent volunteers to help with tea and coffee and to dozens of families in the school who contributed some baking. Although our Coffee Morning only ran for an hour, we still managed to raise over £475!
Thank you so much for your support!

Welcome to Primary 2!
Wow I can't believe we are 3 weeks in! Here are a couple of activities we have been doing.
Children were set a challenge to design and build a boat. They could choose from a range of materials and we tested them to see if they could float and then how many counters could it hold. We had some very mixed results!
We also had a lovely trip on Wednesday afternoon to see the play 'Martha'. The children came back with lots of good things to say about it and said they would recommend it to other children.
Photos are to follow....having a couple of technical issues.

Nature Walk
Last week, P1 enjoyed a Nature Walk through the Market Green and up Hillside Road. Lyndsay Taylor led the walk and told us lots of interesting things about the plants and animals living near our school. She shared some cool facts about birds and we saw lots of starlings and sparrows flying to their nests!

Reading With P7
This term P7 have been sharing our library session with us. It has been great for P1 to hear some of the stories before they decide which book they would like to take home. Through reading to younger children, P7 have been developing their fluency and expression. Thanks P7 - we really enjoy our library time with you!
