 P1 Visit the Library

This week is Book Week Scotland so went on a trip to the Stromness Library to meet the children's librarians Sally and Patsy.  Sally read us a story, they both sang songs with us and then helped us to look at and read the books.  We all got three books to keep!  We are going to use the books in school to do some class reading activities with and then we will take them home.

Safety
This term our project is 'Safety.'  We have learned how to stay safe when travelling by wearing high visibility clothing, holding hands with an adult and remembering to stop, look and listen.  We are also learning a little about how to keep our bodies safe from 'bugs.'  Alison and Louise who are nurses came to tell us about how important it is to wash our hands properly.  We now know when we should wash our hands and how to do it properly.  We did an experiment to see how good we are at washing our hands.  First we put on special cream and saw it glow under a special light.  We then washed our hands and looked again to check that we had washed them properly.  P1 did a super job!  We also made some 'Handy Andy' pictures.  Thanks to the ladies for coming in to help us with our project.

Children In Need
On Friday the boys and girls in P1 came to school dressed in their pyjamas because we were fundraising for Children In Need.  In the morning P5 treated us to a super 'circus' assembly where they showed off their talents.  They told us about Children In Need and how our money can help boys and girls in the UK.  In the afternoon they had organised some fun activities including a Pudsey party and cake sale.  Together, we raised around £450 for Children in Need so THANK YOU!!  This week we have been drawing and writing about our favourite part of the day.
